Well whaddya know? There were actually a bunch of Microsoft strategy documents that were put out on the MS website a couple years ago with exactly this same ailment. Too lazy to Google for a link right now though.
What I saw wasn't too bad, really. Especially not compared to, say, what happened when SCO forgot to get rid of the metadata in one of their court documents ( http://news.com.com/2100-7344-5170073.html?part=dht&tag=ntop ).
I thought the most interesting thing in there was this:
Q.: What server(s) are required?
A.: Notes/Domino applications will access your existing Domino servers. You will require access to Workplace servers to take advantage of IBM Workplace features such as Activity Explorer.
That's really not a surprise or a deep secret if I think about it, but honestly I hadn't thought about it before. I guess it makes sense that some of the cool stuff you see there will require both a Workplace server and a Domino server.

@Julian : for the activity part yes, I think we'll need a workplace server.
For provisionning, I think domino will be able to manage this...but, so a workplace server just for activity explorer...hum...let's wait and see
