I did notice that most of the labels on the right side "post an idea", "what's hot", etc do not change when changing the language. Not sure if this is desired or designed to be so?

Yes - those labels can and will be changed. It's very easy to support for a new language in all Elguji products. The chief software architect Matt White is one brilliant developer.
