What "A Beautiful Mess" it truly is
Monday, February 15th, 2010
It's been a very long time since I blogged about anything to do with "music" so I thought I would jump back in with a quick review of Jason Mraz's new CD/DVD "A Beautiful Mess - Live on Earth". This CD/DVD was recorded back in August 2009 in Chicago on the lake front and is truly one of his best performances. Gayle and I have been following Jason since we met him and Toca Rivera at a Dave Matthews Band concert at the Gorge Amphitheater back in 2004. In fact we snapped a not so good picture with Toca which you can see here.

For Valentines Day Gayle gave me the DVD which I have been trying to find locally for some time now.

The CD consists of the following Mraz songs:
  • Intro
  • Sunshine Song
  • Traveler/Make it Mine
  • Anything You Want
  • Coyotes
  • Live High
  • Only Human
  • The Remedy
  • The Dynamo of Volition
  • A Beautiful Mess
  • I'm Yours
  • Lucky
  • Copchase
  • All Night Long
  • Butterfly
  • The Boy's Gone
and the DVD:
  • Intro
  • Sunshine Song
  • Traveler/Make it Mine
  • Anything You Want
  • Coyotes
  • Live High
  • Only Human
  • The Remedy
  • The Dynamo of Volition
  • A Beautiful Mess
  • I'm Yours
  • Lucky
  • Copchase
  • All Night Long
  • Fall Through Glass
  • Butterfly
  • The Boy's Gone
  • Un Beau Désordre
  • We Sing. We Dance. We Make Videos
My favorites from both the CD and DVD are Only Human, Copchase, All Night Long and Fall Through Glass. Jason seems to have some new band members including a new drummer and a new bass player. His entire band is full of exceptional musicians and the horn section for this show was outstanding. Jason is a truly gifted musician with both vocal and guitar chops that continue to amaze me. He is one of the few musicians who sounds better live than on his studio albums. Also notable was that Jason was playing a nylon string guitar during the entire show except for Copchase where he played a Fender Stratocaster. I know many of you are Mraz fans out there and this CD/DVD set comes highly recommended. Now I need to order a copy and send it to my mom who always has Jason playing in her car.

Ahhh. A day late. My honey gave me some iTunes credits and I picked up Dave Matthews in Las Vegas, Jack Johnson Live and Darius Rucker. Next time... Thanks for the tip. This one would go well on a playlist with my new tunes.
