Julian and I interviewed Niklas Heidloff (IBM), Chris Connor (BSS), Michael Gollmick (TIMETOACT), and Herbert Wagger to discuss the XPages Mobile Controls project on OpenNTF.

Niklas heads up the project so he was able to give some great background and developer information, and Chris, Michael, and Herbet gave us some perspective on using the project in "real life" situations as business partners.

Lotus Knows iPhone iPad App

Last week I stumbled across this "Lotus Knows" iPad app on the App Store developed by Lotus Korea:

The app includes videos, news, Twitter feeds, case studies and more.

Getting the Apple iPad to work with Lotus Traveler

Over the weekend I installed Lotus Traveler on our mail server. The install was quick and easy and I had Traveler setup on my iPhone 3GS (running iOS4) within minutes. I then decided to fire up the install URL on my iPad and ran into a problem. Every time I selected "Apple" as my target device I was presented with a screen that contained the correct provisioning profile however there was nothing I could do with it.

I then turned to Twitter and asked threw it out there to my followers. I tried all of the suggestions and no luck. Then Mr. David Leedy called me at home and gave me some tips. One of his tips led me to the solution. David suggested that I remove any and all iPad apps that worked with "files" of which I had several. After deleting these apps from the iPad I pointed Safari at http://myserver/servlet/travler and bammo! Traveler installed and Bruce was now a happy Traveler iPad user.

The apps that I orginally removed were then re-installed and worked just fine.

Hope this quick tip helps some of you out should you decide to install Traveler on your iPad which I highly recommend. Again, many thanks to Mr. Leedy for his assistance.

Now if there were only some good drumming apps for the iPad.

After 12 years of service at Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas I have decided to leave the company and pursue other endeavors. At Sharp I served as a Senior Systems Engineer for two years and then as the IT Manager for the last 10. During my tenure as IT Manager I had the privilege of leading and working with a fantastic team of IT staff that have been able to sustain a zero downtime record for the business.

Going forward I will be helping Elguji continue to grow their business including new products, services and more. I will also now have the time to dedicate myself to better fulfill my role as the Chairman of the OpenNTF Alliance. Sorry for the short blog entry about this long overdue announcement but, things are very busy in Bruce's world (in a great way).

Stay tuned as I am about to go to "11".

The OpenNTF IdeaJam has begun

Over the next two days OpenNTF is encouraging developers, end-users and other site patrons to contribute their ideas on how to improve the overall OpenNTF experience. There are already two pages of ideas and lots of comments. Please take a few minutes from your busy day to vote, comment and post your ideas. Also, if you haven't visited OpenNTF lately please poke around the site to see many of the new and revamped features.

Whiffies - How social media helped create one of Portlands best known food carts

How did Gayle and I learn about Whiffies fried pie food cart? Via Twitter and Facebook of course. Whiffies is now a very popular "tweetup" spot in the Portland area. We first went to Whiffies in June 2009 where there were over 150 people lined up to eat pies at this four week old food cart in Portland, Oregon. Have a watch and next time you come to visit Gayle and I, get some Whiffies!
